Cosmic Pathways

Led creative direction, brand strategy, and design of materials for a regional physics summit.

❋ Project Overview

Timeline: August 2024 – February 2025

Works Done: Brand Strategy, Logo Design, Visual Identity Development, Flyers/Posters, Merchandise

Tools: Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign

The “Big Bang”

In summer of 2024, I was recruited by Professor Matthew Wright, from Adelphi University, to create a logo for an upcoming physics summit for high school- and college-age students.

Rather than a simple logo design, I created a full brand package, providing different logo formats; positioning the brand by identifying its goals, voice, and target audience; and providing proper documentation of the summit’s visual identity and how to best use the delivered assets.

Creative and Brand Direction

To ensure that I had a complete understanding of Cosmic Pathways and what Dr. Wright envisioned for the summit, I sent an initial presentation, detailing what Cosmic Pathways is, a few brand words to describe the event, set a couple of goals, and presented a mood board to establish visual direction. All were approved!

ABOUT

Cosmic Pathways is a regional summit designed to meet high school and college age students where they are at in their physics and physics education journeys and provide them with an experience that will encourage an interest to pursue an education and a career in physics.

It’s a young scientist physics party in NYC!

BRAND WORDS

CONVENE
Inspire the next generation of physical scientists with stories and challenges from a diverse group of stakeholders in the region, representing academia, industry and the public sector.

ENVISION
Motivate the next generation of physical scientists by learning about the current and future challenges they can be part of solving as they move from life as transition from student life to a professional career.

PROPOSE
Understand and address the gaps in the student journey to ensure strong pathways into future workforce needs.

CELEBRATE the student journey.

PROBLEMS & GOALS

PROBLEM
The physics community has trouble inspiring, recruiting, and retaining students, yet it is a core for many major technologies at the center of the information age.

GOAL
Create a summit that invokes a fun atmosphere around the field of physics,
thus inspiring a new generation of students.

PROBLEM
Most college-age physics students cannot attend national or international physics summits, or they do not until they are near the end of their undergraduate journey.

GOAL
Develop a regional conference, that is accessible and inexpensive to travel to.

Logo Design

In continued conversation with my client, he really wanted to hammer home the concept of the summit being local, accessible and fun. I took those ideas into account when working on the logo, opting to lean into more referential territory. I created and provided a primary logo, a secondary horizontal logo, and a logo mark, and explained within the brand guidelines the uses for each.
